The implementation of Egypt's National Cybersecurity Strategy (2023–2027) has significantly strengthened the country's cybersecurity defenses. Egypt has achieved an outstanding position in the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) for 2023–2024, published by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). This milestone places Egypt among an elite group of 47 nations and ranks it in the top 12 of this exclusive cohort. With a perfect score of 100 points across all ITU metrics, Egypt outperformed 194 countries worldwide. This achievement highlights Egypt's unwavering commitment to cybersecurity and represents a remarkable improvement from its 2020 score of 95.48 points. The GCI, released biennially by the ITU, assesses countries based on five key criteria: regulatory policies and legislation, institutional framework, human capacity development, technical and technological capabilities, and international cooperation. Egypt has consistently excelled in these areas, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to cybersecurity. This progress is largely attributed to the pivotal role of the National Computer Emergency Response Team (EG-CERT), operating under the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority.
