The Egyptian government has allocated 5.5 million square meters in Minya, located in Upper Egypt, for the development of a major industrial zone dedicated to clothing and textile manufacturing. The zone will host over 600 factories and is expected to create between 800,000 and 1 million direct and indirect jobs. A key goal of the project is to empower women by integrating them into the workforce and fostering local economic development. This initiative aligns with Egypt's target of increasing annual textile and apparel exports to USD 12 billion by 2030, following a strong 18% growth in textile exports in 2024, reaching USD 2.8 billion. With a strategic focus on expanding into US and European markets, exports to these regions rose by 34% and 17%, respectively, in the previous year. This industrial zone is a vital part of Egypt’s plan to strengthen its manufacturing sector, increase employment in Upper Egypt, and cement its position as a global textile and apparel supplier.
